New small work

These are original pen, ink, and watercolors done on 100% cotton and then adhered to a painted wrapped canvas. To make them come to life I use a dimensional material for dots and dashes and fun elements.

Apple Festival Time

This is an 8"x10" Sgrafitto illustration of Apples on a branch. This piece is heading to Wickwire gallery in Hendersonville just in time for the Apple Festival - August 2nd thru Labor Day!

I enjoy the festival and hope that the weather is just right... not to hot, and definitely no rain!

Bird on Tea Cup

I haven't been here in a while. Life gets hectic.......... I've been working on several things and this one was cute and fun! It is a 4"x6" pen, ink, and watercolor. The cup is a little askewed but the bird is my favorite!

Weigela and Birds

I was walking one evening with my good friend and we passed a Weigela bush (I didn't know the name of the bush - but she did), she proceeded to break off a huge limb and hand it to me and said this will make a great sgrafitto piece. Needless to say we were still a mile out on our walk and I had to carry that huge limb -- but she was right it did make a nice piece.

Orchid glass vase

These vases are extremely hard to photograph so I haven't been posting any of them. This is a rub-on transfer from my printer that adheres to any non-porous surface - thus I have been making vases and votives with my art for a short while now. This product is terrific - you can use it on wood, glass, and tiles.

I cut out the objects with an exacto blade so that the glass shows through.

Goldfinches and sunflowers

This is a large piece, 12"x16". It took quite a lot of work to do - but I love it! Enormous amount of detail work.

Goldfinches and sunflowers - WIP

This is a 12"x16" piece. This is how it looks inked out and ready to scratch. I paint in my subjects and sometimes they get lost in there. You can see the flying goldfinch - but can you find the other 2 birds?

Below I have started the fun part and now you can see the other birds!

Small works in progress

Below are (2) 4"x4"s of Hummingbirds and trumpet flowers. The first photo shows just the subject painted in with black ink - the second photo is of the Hummingbirds scratched out.

Hummingbird time again!

A watercolor I did. Every once in a while I just like to play with the watercolors on a nice piece of Arches watercolor paper. I detailed it with some ink.

We went back to the Biltmore Estate yesterday and enjoyed the Festival of Flowers.

Work in Progress

This is a work in progress, Cattleya Orchid 8" x 10". It took a while to scratch out the details. I'll post it again after it is painted!

Biltmore Estate

A beautiful day at the Biltmore Estate last Saturday, the saucer magnolias were in full bloom. It was windy though - still had a great day with my friend Lynn, enjoyed lunch at Cedric's Tavern and just walking around in the shops. Highly recommend to locals to get a season pass and enjoy the estate often. Took a photo of the Inn from Antler Hill Village.

I have been playing with my art, taking my original work and digitally enhancing it with backgrounds. Just another outlet for being creative!
